What is Secure PayGate?
Secure PayGate is an innovative software solution from Saferpay. It combines a traditional order by phone, fax or letter – a so-called mail/phone order – with the security of an e-commerce payment.
How does Secure PayGate work?
Secure PayGate works like a normal mail/phone order at the start. The customer orders products or services from you by phone, fax or letter. He does not have to pass on any card data to you, either verbally or in writing. As soon as you’ve received the order, you send the customer an e-mail containing your offer straight from the Saferpay software, together with a secure link to an online payment page. This is where the cardholder enters his card data to complete a secure e-commerce payment. You can see what the individual steps involved in an SPG payment look like by clicking on the direct “Secure PayGate in 10 steps” link in the right-hand column.

What advantages does Secure PayGate give me?
We have summarized the advantages of Secure PayGate for you on a separate page. You will find them by clicking on the direct “The advantages of Secure PayGate at a glance” link in the right-hand column.
Who is liable for cases of fraud involving Secure PayGate?
When a transaction is conducted with Secure PayGate, the Saferpay Merchant Plug-In checks the identity of the cardholder before the payment is made. If the cardholder has a “Verified by VISA” or “Master Card Secure Code” card, he can identify himself using a specific password. If the cardholder does not have a card like that, what is known as the liability shift takes effect. This states that the party which does not support the very latest security technologies is normally liable. As Secure PayGate employs the very latest security technologies, you are largely covered.
However, it’s impossible to completely cut out the possibility of card fraud. So please check the transactions very carefully before releasing them for processing. If in doubt, you should refrain from going through with the transaction. If you do still decide to conduct the transaction, the full financial risk of fraud may rest with you. If a cardholder queries a payment made fraudulently (his card data were used illegally by a third party), you will be requested to forward us corresponding documentation regarding the payment to us.    www.saferpay.com
For whom is Secure PayGate suitable?
No matter which segment you operate in, Secure PayGate is the ideal solution if you want to accept written and telephone orders just a securely as with an encrypted online payment. This also applies if you already have your own homepage but do not run your own online store on your website (see also question 10).

What requirements do I need to fulfil so that I can operate Secure PayGate?
As a merchant, you require:
– Internet access
– your own e-mail address
– a Secure E-Commerce contract with SIX Multipay
– a Purchase and Services Agreement for Secure PayGate complete with Merchant Plug-In.

The Saferpay Merchant Plug-In (MPI) is deployed in the e-payment solutions from Saferpay in order to check the identity of the cardholder online prior to payment.

What requirements does the cardholder need to fulfil in order to be able to pay with Secure PayGate?
The cardholder requires:
– Internet access
– his own e-mail address

What can I do if a cardholder does not have his own e-mail address?
You can only handle a proper Secure PayGate transaction with a cardholder who has his own e-mail address. For people without their own e-mail address, you still have the option of handling the business as a mail/phone order (provided you have a Mail/Phone Order contract).
Which cards can by handled by Secure PayGate?
As a SIX Multipay merchant, you can handle payments using Visa, MasterCard and international Maestro cards. The Swiss banks have not approved Swiss Maestro cards for online payments yet.You can similarly handle other cards, such as the MyOne Card or the Postcard, using Secure PayGate. To do so, however, you will need to conclude additional contracts with the relevant card companies.

Can I incorporate Secure PayGate in my existing website?
No, you cannot incorporate Secure PayGate in a website. However, you can set up the software in such a way that the cardholder is automatically taken to your website once the payment has been made

Are there any add-on services available for Secure PayGate?
Yes. You can currently make use of the following add-on services for a surcharge:
– DCC: Secure PayGate allows you to offer your customers Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) in the same way as for payments at the point of sale or e-commerce. This functionality automatically converts the purchase amount into the cardholder’s currency.
– Foreign currency credit: If you wish, you can also have amounts credited to you in a foreign currency.

You need to conclude additional contracts with SIX Multipay if you wish to use either or both of these additional services.

What does Secure PayGate cost?
The software is made available to you free of charge. You merely pay a commission on all transactions. Thanks to the lower risk compared with mail/phone orders, we can offer you the cheaper rate for Secure E-Commerce transactions.
If you have not yet concluded a Secure E-Commerce contract with SIX Multipay, you will additionally be charged a small license fee for the Saferpay Merchant Plug-In (see question 6).
